Orba

Welcome to Orba

Orba is located in the comarca (county) of Marina Alta, in the north of the province of Alicante. It is situated in a valley, about 35 kilometers inland from the Mediterranean Sea, at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level. The town is surrounded by mountains, including the Sierra de Muro and the Montgó Massif, which has a peak of 753 meters and is a protected natural area.

Orba has a long history, dating back to ancient times. There are remains from the Roman period, such as the Villa Romana de Orba, which was a large agricultural estate. During the Muslim period, Orba was known as Urbá, and it was an important center of trade and agriculture. After the Christian reconquest of the area, Orba became part of the Kingdom of Valencia, and it has remained part of the Valencian Community since the modern autonomous region was established in 1982.

Today, Orba is a small but lively town, with a strong agricultural tradition. Oranges, lemons, and other citrus fruits are the main crops, but there is also production of almonds, olives, and other fruits and vegetables. Orba has a weekly market, held on Saturdays, where farmers and local producers sell their products. The town has several small shops, restaurants, and cafes, as well as a public swimming pool and sports facilities. There are also several cultural and natural attractions in the surrounding area, including the Church of Nuestra Señora de Belén, which dates from the 18th century, and the Orba Castle, which was built in the 13th century and has been recently restored. The Montgó Natural Park, located to the south of Orba, is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers, with a rich flora and fauna and panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.
